Francesco Marinello is Full Professor of Agricultural Mechanics (AGRI-04/B) at the Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry (TESAF), University of Padova. He obtained his MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Padova in 2003 and his PhD in Manufacturing Engineering in 2007. He gained research and professional experience in Italy, Denmark and Switzerland, working on metrology, sensors, nanotechnology and mechanical engineering before focusing on agricultural engineering.

His research interests focus on precision agriculture, smart farming and digital technologies for sustainable and resource-efficient agricultural production. His work combines innovative sensors and measurement systems, remote sensing and UAV-based technologies, data analysis, and the modelling and evaluation of agricultural machinery and autonomous systems. He also investigates the environmental assessment of agricultural practices, including carbon, water and digitization footprints, to support more sustainable and efficient farming systems. His research is conducted through multidisciplinary collaborations with academic and industrial partners at national and international level. He is author or co-author of more than 200 Scopus-indexed publications and five patents, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Computers and Electronics in Agriculture and Agriengineering and of the Digital Agriculture section of Agriculture.
