Zimi Sawacha is Associate Professor of Bioengineering at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Padova (since 2020), and holds the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor (09/G2, 2023–2034). She earned her PhD in Information Engineering – Bioengineering (2007) from the University of Padova and has conducted research at the Istituti Ortopedici Rizzoli (Bologna) and Helen Hayes Hospital (NY). Her research focuses on movement biomechanics, gait analysis, musculoskeletal modelling, wearable sensors, machine learning for healthcare, diabetic foot, Fragile X syndrome and Parkinson’s disease movement analysis, sports injury prevention. She leads/co-leads/is local
PI in projects including EDI-MSK (MSCA DN, 2026–2029), FRAXA Foundation Fellowship (2022–2024), SCIA (2022–2024), and Fresco Clinical Research Grant (2020–2023). She is inventor of ACL Quick Check™ and co-founder of BBSoF S.r.l. She teaches Neuromusculoskeletal Modelling, Biomechanics, and Movement Analysis at Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD levels (Bioengineering and Movement Science degrees), supervising over 180 theses and 6 PhD students. Her output includes 82 peer-reviewed articles, H-index 26, 2257 citations. Awards: Prix Monte-Carlo Femme de l’Année 2023 and Plug and Play Award 2024, 5 Best papers at International conferences. She serves on the ESB Diversity Committee, has been on ESMAC (2019–2023) and SIAMOC (2015–2019) Boards, and is Associate Editor for IEEE OJEMB, Applied Sciences, and Frontiers in Sports and Active Living.
