Piero Poli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences, where he carries out research in geophysics. After completing a PhD at the University of Grenoble, he moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2013, then returned to Grenoble in 2017 as a permanent researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. In 2022 he joined the Department of Geosciences at the University of Padova. His work focuses on using seismic waves to infer the internal structure of our planet and to characterize the physical processes occurring within it. His research has covered many aspects of geophysics and seismology, ranging from pioneering the exploration of the deep Earth using seismic noise to studying the seismic cycle and earthquake physics through advanced analysis methods. He has also spent several years investigating the physics of deep earthquakes, which are the central topic of his ERC project SODA.
