Brief overview of the course

Characteristics and objectives
The master program in Modern Philology is aimed at providing in-depth knowledge of the Occitan literary traditions, with a special focus on the Italian linguacultural space, by means of direct contact with the main authors and works, accurately contextualised in a historical perspective.
In order to attain the Master's degree in Modern Philology, the candidates will have to possess and demonstrate broad knowledge and solid competence in the areas of literature and philology, and they will have to reach and exhibit full awareness of the issues intrinsic in the production of critical editions, both in a mediaeval and a modern or contemporary context. The candidates will therefore need to achieve full command of the techniques necessary to analyse and describe literary texts; they will moreover have to be able to adequately contextualise texts in a historicocritical perspective, and to interpret them with a sufficient degree of autonomy. The candidates will finally also need to demonstrate the ability to communicate in a critical manner – in both written and spoken form – information regarding the disciplines they have studied, also in the perspective of their pedagogical applications.

Occupational opportunities
The holder of a Master's Degree in Modern Philology will be able to find a professional role within public and private institutions in the areas of culture, publishing, dissemination of cultural information, advertising, and entertainment. Masters in Modern Philology can also include teaching within the Italian school system among their work prospects, once they have completed the processes necessary to become licenced teachers and to obtain a teaching position in accordance with current regulations.
