Study in English - how to apply

All degree programmes (except Medicine and Surgery)

  Step-by-step procedure

  1. Choose your degree programme and carefully check its entry requirements
  2. Prepare all required documents (in PDF format)
  3. Register on apply.unipd.it by clicking on “Become an applicant” and filling in the form.
  4. Use the applicant code you receive by email to “Sign In” and complete your application. Make sure you have filled in all the fields and uploaded all necessary documents before clicking on “Submit”. Please note that you can apply for up to 3 degree programmes. Do not register more than once by using different email addresses, otherwise your applications will be rejected.
  5. Pay the application fee (€30). The application fee is not refundable. You will receive a link for the payment by email.
  6. Wait for the evaluation feedback. Please note that your application is checked by the Admissions and Welcome Unit first, and then evaluated by a dedicated Academic Committee.
    If you applied for a degree programme with an unlimited number of places, you will be notified of the evaluation via the application platform.

  7. In order to complete your enrolment, follow the instructions provided in the How to enrol section.

Degree programmes with an UNLIMITED number of places

First Call:

  • 2 November 2023 - 2 February 2024

Second Call:

  • 2 March - 2 May 2024

Third Call: (only for EU citizens and non EU citizens residing in Italy)

  • 2 June – 2 August 2024


Degree programmes with a LIMITED number of places

First Call:

  • 7 January - 7 March 2024

Please note that:

  • some degree programmes may open the First Call to non-EU citizens only
  • some degree programmes may not open a second Call for applications

  Required documents

When submitting your online application, please upload colour scanned copy (PDF format) of the following documents:

Bachelor's degree programmes

  • Curriculum Vitae (Résumé) in English;
  • Motivational Letter(s) in English;
  • Transcript of records;
  • Upper secondary school certificate achieved after at least 12 years of school attendance. If you have yet to obtain your final qualification, an enrolment or provisional certificate is also accepted.
  • Certificate proving the completion of 1 or 2 years of academic studies, OR a post-secondary qualification, OR a foundation course qualification (ONLY if you apply for a Bachelor's degree programme and you do not have a minimum 12-year school record);
  • Certificate of entrance examination to access university, if required by law in the country where you have been awarded your upper secondary school certificate (e.g. Selectividad in Spain, Prova de Aferiçao or Prova Geral de Acesso ao Ensino Superior in Portugal, Vestibular or Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio in Brazil, Gao Kao in China);
  • Valid ID card (ONLY for EU or EU-equated applicants) or passport;
  • Italian residence permit (ONLY for non-EU applicants residing in Italy);
  • English Language certificate or other language certifications (if required - please check entry requirements for each programme);
  • Any other document required (please check entry requirements for each programme).

If needed, the Admissions and Welcome unit  may request the Statement of Comparability of your upper secondary school diploma as issued by CIMEA (Italy’s Credential Information System)  The certification may be obtained directly (upon payment) on a MyDiplome account. 

Master's degree programmes

  • Curriculum Vitae (Résumé) in English;
  • Motivational Letter(s) in English;
  • Transcript of records
  • Academic qualificationIf you have yet to obtain your final qualification, an enrolment or provisional certificate is also accepted.
  • Valid ID card (ONLY for EU or EU-equated applicants) or passport;
  • Italian residence permit (ONLY for non-EU applicants already residing in Italy);
  • English Language or other language certifications (if required - please check entry requirements for each programme);
  • Any other document required (please check entry requirements for each programme).

If needed, the  Admissions and Welcome unit  may request the Statement of Comparability of your Bachelor’s issued by CIMEA (Italy’s Credential Information System) The certification may be obtained directly (upon payment) on a MyDiplome account.

NB: If you are admitted to a degree programme, you will have to submit original and legalised copies of your previous qualifications. No legalised documents need be submitted at application stage, but an English or Italian translation of your entry qualification has to be provided.

NO Italian language certificate is required, when applying for an English-taught degree programme..

Medicine and Surgery (English-taught)

  Available places and application process

The Single-cycle degree programme in Medicine and Surgery admits a limited number of students, selected at national level by Ministerial Decree. The number of places available, the date of the admission test, the content and the procedures for selection are set forth annually by Ministerial Decree and mentioned in the call for admissions.

To apply for this degree programme, registration on Universitaly is required. Candidates must pass an admission test in English (IMAT) and can proceed with registration based on places available, their ranking and on whether they achieved the minimum score set by the admission test. Please check how to enrol section for further information.

If you are a non-EU citizen residing outside Italy, please note that you must also pre-enrol at the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence through the portal Universitaly.

The form to fill out is composed of three sections (personal information, Embassy and degree programme, qualification). We kindly remind you to select ‘Università degli Studi di Padova’ and the degree programme in "Medicine and Surgery".

  Deadlines and test date

Candidates must register for the IMAT in the www.universitaly.it portal, usually between June/July; the procedure to follow is available in the portal. 
Information concerning the application dates, application procedure and test dates will be available in the Call for admissions, published each year around June/July.

  Required documents

No documents will have to be uploaded during the registration phase in Universitaly.

In case of admission and for enrolment purposes, coloured scanned copies (PDF format) of the following original documents are required:

  • Upper secondary school certificate awarded after at least 12 years of secondary studies;
  • National entrance exam, if requested in the country where you achieved your qualification
  • (e.g. Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio or Vestibular in Brasil; EBAU/EVAU in Spain, Gao Kao
  • in China, etc.)
  • Official translation in English or Italian of the previous listed documents;
  • Legalisation of entry qualification documents of your upper secondary school certificates;
  • ONLY for EU or EU-equated citizen: valid ID card  or passport;
  • ONLY for non-EU citizens residing in Italy: Residence permit.

About your citizenship

Please check carefully the category below you most identify with, because it can affect the application process.

  EU and EU-equated citizenship

  • citizens of any European Union Member States
  • citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, San Marino
  • citizens with a dual nationality, one of which is Italian/European. Please note that, if you have an Italian nationality, you must apply as Italian, pursuant to Italian Law
  • citizens of a country outside the European Union residing in Italy and holding a valid Italian residence permit - Permesso di soggiorno which allows enrolment at university, as per existing regulations on enrolment.

  Non-European citizens residing outside Italy

Citizens of a country outside the European Union, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or San Marino AND who do not have a double nationality, including Italian or any European nationality, AND who cannot be considered as non-EU citizens residing in Italy (see above).
