Marcello Ghilardi graduated in Philosophy at the University of Padua and obtained the title of PhD in Aesthetics and Theory of Arts at the University of Palermo, after having also trained at the Universities of Paris, Milan, and Beijing.
Since 2018, he is Associate Professor in Aesthetics at FISPPA Department, and in June 2020 he obtained the national qualification as a full professor. He is responsible for the Erasmus project in exchange with the University of Hildesheim, and member of the Advisory Board for the University of Padua Center on Human Rights.

He has lectured in several Italian and foreign universities and has been visiting scholar at several foreign universities, including the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona, ​​the University of Tohoku (Sendai) and the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme in Paris.

He works as a translator and consultant for various publishing houses, for which he has also edited collective volumes and texts by Cassirer, Jullien, Merleau-Ponty, Nishida, in addition to the treatise of Shitao, Discourses on Painting by the monk Bitter Cucumber (Milan, 2014); he has published more than 100 essays in miscellaneous volumes or in national and international journals.

Intercultural Issues between Aesthetics and Ethics" (Mimesis International, 2015); "L'estetica giapponese moderna (Morcelliana 2016), "La filosofia giapponese" (ELS/Morcelliana 2018), "La radice del sole" (Longanesi, 2019), "Il simbolo di Europa" (Mimesis, 2020), "Arte e meditazione" (RCS, 2020), "Eccedenza e alterità" (Morcelliana, 2024). Part of his artistic research is collected in the catalogue: "Nella distanza della luce / In the Distance of Light" (Mimesis, 2014).
