Expertise and Research interests
The general expertise of Leonardo Badia lies in the broad area of communication systems, computer networks, wireless networks, digital signal processing. His specific research interests are: Cross-layer optimization (routing, scheduling, energy-efficiency) for multi-hop networks; Mathematical models for error control techniques such as ARQ and Hybrid ARQ; Game theory and microeconomics applied to radio resource management; Efficient network integration of wireless access techniques.

Professional activity
Leonardo Badia is an IEEE Senior member (also a Communication Society member), an ACM member and a CNIT member. He actively participates to the editorial processes of scientific conferences and journals. In particular, he is an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and the IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. Previously, he was an Associate Editor for the Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Journal. Additionally, he was Chair of the Technical Program Committees for the European Wireless Conference 2009, the Broadband Wireless Access 2011 workshop within IEEE Globecom, and the IEEE CAMAD 2013 conference. In 2015, he is chairing the TPC of European Wireless 2015. He is also very active as TPC member or organizing committee member for a dozen of IEEE conferences (including IEEE Globecom and IEEE ICC) and has served as a reviewer for several major journals (including, among others, many IEEE Transactions, IEEE JSAC, and Wiley journals) and conferences (such as IEEE Infocom, IEEE Globecom, ACM Mobicom and ACM Mobihoc).
