Piave Futura
The former Piave barracks, formerly an Austro-Hungarian military settlement and before that the church of Sant'Agostino with an adjoining Dominican convent, acquires a new appearance with an intervention aimed at creating a university campus. A historic space of 51,000 square meters, interpreted by the creativity of a great architect, is transformed into a place dedicated to young people and citizenship, which can only be traveled on foot or by bike.
The project, winner of an international competition for design ideas launched by the University, is designed by architect David Chipperfield and recovers most of the existing buildings, making them fluidly enter into dialogue with large green areas.
It is an example of collaboration between public institutions (Ministry of Defence, State Property, Municipality and University) aimed at the creation of the Social Sciences Campus (Economics, Political Science and Sociology) and the Cultural Heritage Laboratories.
