How to enrol

Non-European citizens residing outside Italy

These enrolment guidelines are applicable if:

  • you are a citizen of a country not belonging to the European Union, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland or San Marino AND
  • you do not have a double nationality, including Italian or any European nationality AND
  • you do not hold a valid Italian residence permit.

  Step by step procedure

  1. Complete enrolment at the University of Padova Enrolment Office and hand in the requested documents.
  2. Pay the first instalment of the tuition fees.
  3. Apply for a residence permit within 8 working days upon arrival in Padova.

  Required documents

Bachelor's and single-cycle degrees

a) Secondary school diploma (achieved after at least 12  years of schooling) translated in Italian or English and legalized;

In case of school education lasting less than 12 years, transcripts of records showing you have completed one or two years of academic studies or a post-secondary qualification or a certificate showing you have successfully completed a Foundation Course. These documents should be also officially translated in Italian and legalized.

If in the country where you achieved your qualification,  an entrance exam is set for the admission to the University, you must provide a certificate showing you have passed that test

b) one of the following documents:

- Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore), released by the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the country where the diploma is awarded. This declaration confirms the value of the qualifications attained outside Italy, with reference to the local educational system. The Declaration of Value must also state that 12 years of schooling have been completed.

- Statement of Comparability issued by CIMEA – Italy’s Credential Information System. Please note that, starting from June 2019, a special agreement between the CIMEA and the University of Padova allows students to obtain such certification on particularly favorable terms (e.g.: once enrolled, a reimbursment of expenses for obtaining the Statement of Comparability). c) Your pre-registration form (Form A) and the attached documents received from the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence

d) photocopy of your passport;

e) the residence permit application receipt;

f) Enrolment certificate (printable at the end of the online enrolment procedure);

g) Enrolment fee (187 euro) payment receipt

Master's degrees

a) Bachelor’s diploma (or alternatively post-secondary qualification awarded by a non-university higher education institution allowing admission to Master’s degrees) translated in Italian or in English and legalized;

b) Transcript of Records  released by the competent academic authority, stating passed exams (preferably with mention of ECTS credits, where applicable) grades and programme description. The Transcript of Records must be translated in Italian or in English and legalized;

c) one of the following documents:

- Declaration of Value (Dichiarazione di Valore), released by the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the country where the degree is awarded. This declaration confirms the value of the qualifications attained outside Italy, with reference to the local educational system;

- Statement of Comparability issued by CIMEA – Italy’s Credential Information System. - Diploma Supplement [only for qualifications obtained within the framework of Bologna Process - please check: http://www.ehea.info/page-full_members] the Diploma Supplement is usually issued by the University together with the final degree. It provides a standardized description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies completed by its holder. It is also part of the Europass framework transparency tools. 

d) Your pre-registration form (Form A) and the attached documents received from the Italian Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence

  Translation and legalization of documents

Academic Qualifications and certificates must be submitted with an official translation according to the rules set by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

Legalization is required in order to guarantee the document authenticity and can be obtained at the Italian Embassy or Consulate of the country where the Diploma has been awarded.

If the country where the qualification has been awarded is a member of the Hague Convention (1961) an Apostille must be affixed by competent authorities, instead of legalization.

Nor legalization neither apostille are required if the qualification has been awarded in countries where specific international agreements have been established: Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland (Brussels Convention 1987), Germany (Rome Convention 1969).
