Foundation Year launched to attract international talent

The Foundation Year was created to meet a specific regulatory and inclusion need. 
The main beneficiaries will be potential international applicants who have completed only eleven years of schooling in their country of origin and who need the twelfth year of compulsory attendance in order to enroll at an Italian university. 
However, the initiative is also aimed at a further group, namely those who, despite having already completed twelve years of school, choose to attend this preparatory year to strengthen their skills and become familiar with the Italian university system.

The Foundation Year thus serves as an academic bridge to reduce cultural distances and fill the educational gaps of international female and male students, making the University increasingly competitive in the higher education landscape. 

The study plan: 690 hours between language and subjects

The training agreement stands out for its intensive modular structure lasting one year, for a total of 690 hours of teaching organized into three macro-components:

• Italian language (450 hours): a compulsory course for everyone who enrolls, which will lead them to acquire a B2 level;
• subject courses (192 hours): three different tracks will be available: Humanities (humanities), Social Sciences (social sciences), and Natural Sciences (natural sciences);
• workshops (48 hours): targeted activities and specific focus areas to prepare for university entrance tests, both in Italian and in English.

To complete the program, a series of shared activities will be offered with the aim of fostering integration and the creation of an international student community.

Status and costs

People who enroll in the program will be regularly admitted, and the University undertakes to provide them with board and lodging (excluded from the enrollment fee). At the end of the year, upon passing the required exams, a final certificate will be issued. The enrollment fee will be 6,000 euros, an amount that fully covers teaching activities and insurance coverage, payable in three installments.
