September at Museo Poleni

In September 2026, the Museo Giovanni Poleni of the University of Padua is offering days of guided tours for all ages, in two time slots, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., upon registration.
The guided tours are free of charge, only admission to Museo Poleni is subject to payment.
Museo Giovanni Poleni tells the story of physics between Padua and the world through a unique collection, begun in 1739 with the Physics Cabinet founded by Giovanni Poleni, one of the most famous in Europe at the time. The museum's scientific instruments span centuries of innovation, from the Renaissance to the 20th century, reflecting developments in physics research and teaching at the University of Padua and beyond.
PROGRAMME
13 September 2026
Women scientists - scattered notes of female genius
Some women are remembered for having contributed to developments in physics. However, they are very few... Why? Some saw their work ignored or forgotten, but many did not even have the opportunity to study or make contributions. Starting from the instruments of Museo Poleni, this guided tour presents better-known and lesser-known women scholars from various historical periods, with the aim of encouraging reflection and discussion on the situation of women in science, past and present.
20 September 2026
A journey through time and science at Museo Poleni
Ancient scientific instruments, fascinating stories and interactive experiments await you for a unique experience. You will discover the invisible threads linking local physicists to the great global scientific community, and you will be surprised to find physics where you least expect it: in art, architecture, music and psychology.
27 September 2026
The five senses at Museo Poleni
How does our eye work? How does sound travel to our ears? When getting out of a car on a dry day, static electricity makes itself felt to the touch, but how does this happen? How does a battery work and why does it have a pungent smell when it is damaged? Is it possible to make a thermometer with cooking oil? What did an electromagnetism laboratory smell like? Come and find out!
