In October 2026, the Museo Giovanni Poleni of the University of Padua is offering days of guided tours for all ages, in two sessions, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., with booking required.

The guided tours are free of charge, only admission to Museo Poleni is subject to payment.

Museo Giovanni Poleni tells the story of physics between Padua and the world through a unique collection, begun in 1739 with the Physics Cabinet founded by Giovanni Poleni, one of the most famous in Europe at the time. The museum's scientific instruments span centuries of innovation, from the Renaissance period to the twentieth century, reflecting developments in physics research and teaching at the University of Padua and beyond.

PROGRAMME

4 and 18 October 2026
Autumn colours
Why do we see the colours of autumn? How was it discovered that white light is made up of many colours? How was the Sun studied in the nineteenth century? When was the incandescent electric light bulb invented? And neon lighting? The guided tour will answer these and other questions, retracing the history of studies on light from Antiquity to the beginning of the twentieth century.

11 and 25 October 2026
A journey through time and science at Museo Poleni
Ancient scientific instruments, fascinating stories and interactive experiments await you for a unique experience. You will discover the invisible threads linking local physicists to the wider global scientific community, and you will be surprised to find physics where you least expect it: in art, architecture, music and psychology.
