The importance of Franciscan spirituality in Giuseppe Tartini’s education is the theme at the heart of the new Esplorazione Tartiniana on Saturday 12 September.

The cultural walk, organised by the Amici della Musica di Padova in collaboration with the guides of the Associazione Tartini2020, starts at 3.45 p.m. from the Chiesa di San Francesco di Padua. This is followed by a visit to the church and, in addition to the works it contains, Tartini’s complex personality is illustrated, not only as a composer, but also as an intellectual and scholar. Rossana Comida will guide the visit.

Free participation with compulsory booking (by the previous Friday): info@amicimusicapadova.org  -  0498756763

At 5.30 p.m. the programme includes the final concert in the nearby Chiesa di S. Caterina (via C. Battisti 245, Padua). The musicologist Angela Forin introduces the concert, highlighting how Tartini’s lesson lives on in the work of today’s musician, in the profound pleasure of making music, through study, technique, expression and the ability to convey emotion. A lesson that is all the more alive when it is played by Glauco Bertagnin, a renowned violin virtuoso.

The programme includes two sonatas by Giuseppe Tartini and Grabesgesang. in memoriam; Giuseppe Tartini, a contemporary piece by Lorenzo de Angeli commissioned by the Amici della Musica di Padova for the occasion. Grabesgesang (from the German: Song of the Tomb) presents itself as a profound and intimate elegy, a tribute to the memory of Giuseppe Tartini expressed through the solitary voice of the solo violin. The choice of an unaccompanied instrument is not accidental: it becomes the emblem of a metaphysical/theological solitude; a ‘creaturely’ solitude before the mystery of death.

Free admission to the concert subject to availability.
