Loneliness is one of the great challenges of contemporary society. In a world characterised by ever faster and more pervasive connections, there is a growing need to understand how social relationships, individual wellbeing and the sense of belonging to communities are changing.

The Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padua is promoting the public event The faces of loneliness: perspectives on contemporary society, which brings together experts from the worlds of research, medicine, journalism and public engagement to offer different and complementary points of view on this phenomenon.

Speakers include: Alberto Pellai, doctor, psychotherapist and researcher at the Università degli Studi di Milano; Daria Bignardi, journalist and writer, in conversation with Sara Poma, author and editorial manager at Chora Media; Maria Sironi, lecturer in Social Statistics at the Department of Statistical Sciences of the University of Padua; and Sara Tafuro, researcher at INED – Institut National d'Études Démographiques in Paris.

The event is an opportunity for dialogue and exchange across different disciplines, addressing the theme of loneliness in its social, psychological and demographic dimensions, with particular attention to the transformations affecting contemporary society.

Participation is free of charge, with registration via Eventbrite until all available places are taken.
