Entanglements between metropolitan and colonial gun control regimes

The EU-GUNS and GlobArms projects, both managed at DiSSGeA of the University of Padua, are launching a further international collaboration. The research team of Dónal Hassett from Maynooth University (Ireland) is in Padua to present the COLVET project ("Ex-Soldiers of Empire: Colonial Veterancy in the Interwar World"), funded by the ERC, which constitutes the first complete comparative history of colonial veteranhood in the interwar period.

The three projects will explore shared themes in a joint workshop entitled "Entanglements between metropolitan and colonial gun control regimes" (Entanglements between metropolitan and colonial gun control regimes), taking place on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 September in the Sala Conferenze of Palazzo Liviano in Padua.

The individual papers address issues such as the material dimensions of gun control and the role of race, citizenship, veteranhood and foreign status in colonial and metropolitan gun control regimes, seeking similarities and differences between these two contexts.
