Received her Medical Degree from Padua University, Italy, in 1984.

Following her training at the School of Specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at Padua University, she received her qualification as Gastroenterologist in 1988.

She completed her fellowship at the Liver Unit and Liver Research Laboratories, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, United Kingdom from 1988 to 1991.

She received her PhD in Hepatology at Modena University, affiliated to Padua University, in 1993.

Appointed Senior registrar and then Consultant at the Gastroenterology Unit of the Padua University Hospital from 1993 to 2001.

Appointed Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology, Padua University in 2001.

Scientific coordinator of the Regional Center for Cell Therapy for Metabolic Diseases, Veneto Region, 2004.

Appointed Delegate of the Rector of the University of Padua for International Relations 2008-2009. Member of the Commission for International Activity for International Cooperation of Padua University, 2009-2012. Member of the Committee on Development Cooperation of the Veneto Region 2009-2015.

Appointed Head of the Multivisceral Transplant Unit, Padua University Hospital, Italy, since 2010.

Appointed Consultant of the Rector of the University of Padua for International Relations 2010- 2015.

Appointed Associate Professor in Gastroenterology, Padua University in 2014.

Appointed ProRector for the Post Lauream Department as of October 1st, 2015.

She has developed her interest in basic research on human hepatocytes and stem cells. She has performed and coordinated clinical research on liver disease, complications of cirrhosis, alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, adherence, quality of life, and liver transplantation. She has been in charge of evaluating projects for European Commission Horizon 2020. Currently: European Union Councillor of EASL (European Association for Study of the Liver); Treasurer of ILTS (International Liver Transplantation Society); Honorary President of UEMS (Union Europene Des Medecins Specialistes) - EBTM (European Board Transplant Medicine); Member of the Permanent Committee for Liver Transplantation of AISF (Italian Association for the Study of the Liver). Associate Editor of 3 international journals. Invited speaker and moderator at 360 national and international conferences. She has published more than 240 scientific articles in international journals, with more than 5,700 citations, H-index 40 (source Scopus).
