International Academic Networks list

  Coimbra Group

The University of Padova is a member of the Coimbra Group, a network of the European historical research universities (Oxford, Cambridge, Heidelberg, Salamanca, Jena, Leuven  and Leiden among them), established in 1985 to create stronger academic and cultural links, and to promote internationalization and academic co-operation. The Coimbra Group, which acts through seven task forces,  favours the development of a European education policy based on the reciprocal exchange of information, easier academic mobility between universities and precious joint activities.
The University of Padova is participating in the three Scholarship Programmes which the Coimbra Group has been offering in the last few years to young professors and/or researchers from specific geographical areas, which have enjoyed considerable popularity among the target groups.

EAIE Expert Network on Joint Programmes

While there has been a rapid increase in the number of institutions collaborating to offer joint curricula, it is still considered a challenge due to the incompatibilities of the national higher education structures across Europe. The EAIE Network Joint Programmes brings forward these issues and provides a forum for identifying best practice and supporting the development and implementation of joint programmes, including joint and multiple degrees. From rationale and management to quality assurance and recognition, it’s the perfect platform for practitioners working in all areas of joint programmes.

EIUC – European Interuniversity Centre for Human Rights and Democratization

A partnership in which the University of Padova participates fruitfully is the EIUC – European Interuniversity Centre for Human Rights and Democratization, based in Venice  and – now – funded directly by the European Parliament and supported by the Veneto Region and the Municipality of Venice. The corresponding network was started in 1997  after a suggestion of the European Commission, under  the initiative  of the University of Padova, in close coordination with the university of Deusto. Later on the network extended to include nearly 40 partner institutions. In more recent years, the University of Padova  especially supported EIUC, by following the development of the administrative procedure to confer the joint degree to the graduates of the European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization.

Eurasian Silk Road Universities Consortium - ESRUC

Taking the historical Silk Road as an inspiring symbol of cultural and spiritual exchange, the Eurasian Silk Road Universities Consortium (ESRUC) provides a forum for promoting greater understanding of friendship, peace and value of cultural diversity and cross-cultural connection. It further drives collaborative, sustainable development along the Silk Road. The Consortium supports preservation and revitalisation of the rich cultural heritage of its Members with a view to enhance cross-cultural understanding.
ESRUC works as a collaborative framework aimed at capacity building and at raising the profile of Consortium members which is sustainable, responsible and internationally competitive.

  European University Association - EUA

The European University Association – EUA is the largest and most comprehensive organisation representing universities in Europe (850 members across 47 countries). It was formed in 2001 as the result of a merger between the Association of European Universities (CRE) and the Confederation of European Union Rectors’ Conferences. 17 million students are enrolled at EUA member universities. As the voice of Europe’s universities, EUA supports and takes forward the interests of individual institutions and the Higher Education sector as a whole.
As EUA member, the University of Padova can enjoy sharing best practice by participating in projects, events and other mutual learning activities involving a wide range of universities. Above all, EUA enables its members to influence and shape future European policy and initiatives affecting Higher Education and Research. Through its work and contacts with the European Commission, Parliament and other key decision-makers, EUA ensures universities’ interests and concerns are taken up with all key stakeholders.
