Characteristics and objectives
The bachelor's degree in Statistics for Technology and Science offers an interdisciplinary training in statistics, maths, and informatics, with insights into the recent advances in information technologies and modern online data acquisition techniques. The application areas of interest are several and range from technological-experimental areas to medical, biological, health and environmental areas. The course allows students to develop the necessary skills to deal with, (i) quality control of products and services and evaluation of the capacity of production processes; (II) management informatics and big data statistical analysis; (III) design of algorithms and data structures, as well as programming of computer systems; (IV) in statistical applications for data arising from observational and experimental studies, typical of epidemiological and clinical research.
Occupational opportunities
Graduates in Statistics for Technology and Science may be employed in several fields: manufacturing / services / commercial, consulting, pharmaceutical, bio-medical research institutes, professional studios, laboratories, public or private institutions. According to personal interests and attitudes, students can specialise in the main statistical applications of technology, quality, biomedical and healthcare, information technology and data management. With these skills, they can be placed as statisticians in the industrial, medical, biological, environmental and scientific fields. For example, in the area of total quality management, they can work as statisticians for quality control and production planning and quality improvement, or in the information technology area, as programmers, able to organize and process information flows. Finally, by specializing in biostatistics, they can be employed in pharmaceutical companies, healthcare facilities, public institutions, and research institutions.
