Held in English, the Master’s Degree prepares engineers with solid technical and design-oriented knowledge in the areas of electrical, information, and mechanical engineering. Graduates are able to design, implement, and manage devices and systems with high integration between mechanical and electronic parts. The programme’s core objective is to provide an interdisciplinary preparation, enabling mechatronic engineers to integrate cutting-edge technologies – such as modern sensors, electronic actuators, and electric drives - into an electromechanical project, that is controlled in real-time by embedded computers. These systems address the increasing needs of industry sectors including automation, manufacturing, energy, robotics and automotive.

Characteristics and objectives
The Master's degree in Mechatronics Engineering allows students to acquire important technical design skills that are useful in fields such as electronics, computer science, electrical, and mechanical engineering. These skills enable graduates to design, implement, and manage equipment and systems with strong integration between mechanical and electronic parts, such as those present in various industrial sectors including automation, manufacturing, energy, robotics, and transportation.
The interdisciplinary design-oriented preparation will allow graduates to develop innovative integrated system projects, with the ability to adopt the main mechanical components in automation and techniques for the control of mechanical systems, to design industrial electric drives and power electronic circuits, and to develop specific software and algorithms for real-time control of industrial processes. Graduates will have knowledge of the structure and interaction of an industrial plant, both at the system and component level.
The specialist in Mechatronics Engineering therefore represents a multidisciplinary professional figure suitable for a dynamic job market, capable of managing and integrating electronic, computer, and mechanical skills.
Occupational opportunities
The main career opportunities are in the electromechanical, mechanical and electronics industries with advanced automation departments that design and manufacture mechanical robotic, automotive and aircraft systems, in manufacturing industries for automated production and in industries making complex and highly automated equipment, such as automated warehouses, sheet metal processing, automatic food packaging, textile machines, etc. Graduates may also pursue research in mechatronics or related areas at Italian or foreign institutions through PhD programs or in high-level industrial research centers.
Double degree opportunities
Students enrolled in this Master's degree course will be offered the opportunity to apply for a T.I.M.E. - Top International Managers in Engineering - double degree with several internationally renowned universities and polytechnics in Europe and Asia. At the end of the double degree programme, students will obtain a UNIPD Master's Degree and a Master's Degree awarded by the host university.
