Characteristics and objectives
The master program in Modern Philology is aimed at providing in-depth knowledge of the Occitan literary traditions, with a special focus on the Italian linguacultural space, by means of direct contact with the main authors and works, accurately contextualised in a historical perspective.
In order to attain the Master's degree in Modern Philology, the candidates will have to possess and demonstrate broad knowledge and solid competence in the areas of literature and philology, and they will have to reach and exhibit full awareness of the issues intrinsic in the production of critical editions, both in a mediaeval and a modern or contemporary context. The candidates will therefore need to achieve full command of the techniques necessary to analyse and describe literary texts; they will moreover have to be able to adequately contextualise texts in a historicocritical perspective, and to interpret them with a sufficient degree of autonomy. The candidates will finally also need to demonstrate the ability to communicate in a critical manner – in both written and spoken form – information regarding the disciplines they have studied, also in the perspective of their pedagogical applications.
