A course that investigates history from the late ancient age to the contemporary age through the use of specialized training. Student will become awareness of the tools and methods of historical research, and the debates of historiography. Students will then choose one of the three traditional periodizing segments (Medieval Age, Modern Age, and Contemporary Age) and focus on the period by analyzing historical processes in the light of the political and institutional, cultural and social, environmental and economic, as well as religious and gender perspectives. Students will complete their training with related literary and philosophical subjects, useful not only for the formation of the big picture, but also for accessing the public calls for teaching assignments. Students can also work as editors and publicist in historical communication, in archives and museums, as well as in historical and philosophical research

Characteristics and objectives
The Curriculum in Historical Sciences provides specialist training in the historical field, covering the period from late antiquity to the contemporary age.
The course has as main objective to provide students with:
• full awareness of the tools and methods of historical research;
• thorough knowledge of historical themes and processes relating to one of the three traditional periodising segments (Medieval age, Modern age, Contemporary age);
• in-depth knowledge of the debates that run through contemporary historiography;
• the ability to deal with themes and methods from other disciplines (social sciences, philosophy, literature), which are functional to their educational path.
In the courses taught, the reconstruction of the past is carried out through different analytical perspectives (from political and institutional history, to cultural, social, environmental, economic, religious, gender history), which allow those who study to get in touch with and to discuss the main historiographic methods and schools.
The course is also structured in order to offer students the opportunity to acquire the essential notions for a critical and conscious use of the various types of documentary material. Finally, among the subjects classified as optional ('Affini e integrative'), the course includes courses in literary and philosophical subjects, which are not only valuable for the overall human sciences training of those who study, but can also grant access to a career as teachers in secondary schools.
At the end of the master's course in Historical Sciences, students will have gained a critical knowledge of the main historical phenomena, will be able to independently identify the methods and tools that are useful for their reconstruction and will have acquired the skills to communicate in an appropriate way the knowledge they have acquired.

The curriculum in Mobility Studies is based on the idea that the humanities - and in particular history - can play an important role in understanding mobility phenomena. The aim of the course is twofold: on the one hand, the courses given will provide adequate knowledge about the movement of people, objects and ideas in specific historical and geographical contexts; on the other hand, they will offer students the analytical tools that will enable them to understand human actions in time and space. In this way, students will be able to analyse phenomena such as globalisation, migration, exile and tourism, highlighting their role in shaping societies and cultural identities. Through seminar-style teaching, students will come into contact with documentary sources and materials that will enable them to analyse how people, texts, images, goods, ideas are moved, translated, transformed, adapted and negotiated by different social actors in the past and present.
The program includes general modules on topics in 'history', 'history and social sciences', 'theory and methods' (especially in Digital Humanities) and in Literature, Law and Social Sciences. Laboratories and Internship concludes.

Occupational opportunities (historical sciences)
