Characteristics and aims
The course of study is divided into two curricula: History and History of Religions.
The 'History' curriculum aims to provide a basic grounding in the historical processes that develop from ancient to contemporary times. Students will then acquire further skills and knowledge of a historical nature, linked both to particular moments and themes (the Renaissance, the history of Europe, Area Studies), and to specific analytical approaches (from political history to gender history, to economic history). Through specific teaching, students are also provided with tools and notions useful for the analysis of historical documentation and the use and criticism of sources. Finally, the course provides the opportunity to acquire significant basic skills in the philosophical and literary disciplines, and in the field of social sciences (anthropology and law).
The 'History of Religions' curriculum aims to provide the tools to understand religious facts through a multifaceted, non confessional and innovative perspective. Students will acquire anthropological, historico-doctrinal and textual skills that will enable them to study and critically interpret the historical events and symbolic heritage of the main religious cultures that arose around the Mediterranean, the Middle East and Asia: global phenomena that reach from antiquity to the contemporary world. The study path therefore proposes courses concerning historical-religious methodology, anthropology, the religions of the ancient world, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas, literature, philosophical traditions and, in general, systems of thought. The historical vocation of the curriculum is implemented by the teaching of ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary history, together with archaeology, art history, law, political institutions and doctrines, in order to guarantee a solid general preparation.

Occupational opportunities
The first degree in History provides basic skills and knowledge which - in order to find an adequate professional outlet in the labour market and in the research field - must be enriched and completed by attending a Master's degree programme.
However, the course provides skills and knowledge that can be employed in some work sectors: publishing, libraries, private and public archives, cultural institutes and institutions dealing with territorial enhancement and cultural mediation. Those who graduate in History will be able to acquire in specific scientific-disciplinary sectors a good number of credits that could be used - after obtaining the master's degree - to participate in the tests for admission to the teachers' training courses for secondary education.

From Bachelor's degree to Master's degree
The course gives access to the master's degree courses in Historical sciences and to the inter-university Master's degree course in Religious studies, according to the procedures that will be indicated in the specific admission notices.
