Every day many medical decisions are made based on the results from the laboratories of immunohematology, microbiology, pathological anatomy, medicine, molecular biology, and medical genetics. The biomedical laboratory technician is the person in charge of the control of the machinery and the correct execution of the analyzes. With this course, you will learn the fundamental concepts of physics, statistics, computer science, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and biochemistry, as well as the skills needed for the execution and management of the analysis techniques of biological materials. You will address issues related to management regulations, certifications, and the accreditation of specific machinery and biomedical laboratories. The course will allow you to enter into the workforce and carry out your professional path in both public and private structures.

Characteristics and objectives
The Degree Course in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques is a three-year degree course that qualifies for the health profession of Biomedical Laboratory Technician.
During the three-years, students learn scientific disciplines useful for performing analytical techniques and managing of biological samples in the diagnostic laboratory.
They also learn the regulations for management, certification and accreditation of a biomedical laboratory and profession associated ethical and deontological issues. Meanwhile they study physics, statistics, information technology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry and biochemistry, analytical and diagnostic techniques performed in laboratories of Clinical pathology, Immunohaematology and Transfusion Unit, Microbiology and Virology, Histopathology and Cytopathology, Molecular biology and Medical genetics.

Occupational opportunities
Students with a degree in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques carry out professional activities, even independently, in public and private clinical chemistry and diagnostic laboratories divided by discipline (clinical biochemistry, microbiology and virology, pathological anatomy, transfusion unit and molecular biology, genetics and molecular pathology). They also operate in prevention and protection services of the Regional Agencies for the Environment Protection (ARPA), regional Experimental Zooprophylactic Institutes and pharmaceutical industries. The laboratory technician can participate in research activities, training and professional development activities and teaching activities in University courses or in other training programs. He carries out his professional activity as an employee or freelancer.

From Bachelor's degree to Master's degree
The Course gives access to the Master's Degree Course in Diagnostic and Technical Health Professions Sciences and to the Master's Degree Course in Medical Biotechnologies and Pharmaceutical Biotechnologies according to the way indicated in the specific admission notices.
