Optics and optometry

This course will train professionals to operate in the optical-optometric field with a solid basic training in classical and modern physics and a punctual optical-optometric preparation, allowing you to manage increasingly more complex equipment with competence. These studies will allow you to acquire the technical-scientific investigation methodologies for the assessment of visual and optometric abilities; you may find employment in optometry studies connected to small commercial firms or in a larger scale, industrial context - optics, eyewear and contact lenses commercial companies - , in public and private companies - optometric measures, environmental controls in relation to the eyes and vision - and optometric consultancy activities.

Characteristics and objectives
The degree course in Optics and Optometry trains a professional figure capable of working in the optical-optometric field. The training objectives consist in providing a solid basis in classical and modern physics and an optical-optometric preparation.
In this way, the student can:
i) manage with competence complex optical equipment and optometic devices;
ii) acquire an open mind, flexible and predisposed to the rapid learning of innovative methodologies and technologies;
iii) learn and apply the technical-scientific investigation methodologies for the evaluation of visual and optometric skills.
Occupational opportunities
Graduates can find work at: lens and glasses shops; industries (business of optics, eyewear and contact lenses); public and private companies (optometric measures, environmental controls in relation to the eyes and vision); optometric consultancy in the field of ophthalmology and optometric consultancy in public and private entities.
From Bachelor's degree to Master's degree
In Italy there is not a MSc degree in Optics and Optometry.
For Academic Year 2026/2027, you will need to submit your application within one of the following calls:
- Call One: 2 November 2025 – 2 February 2026
- Call Two: 2 March 2026 – 2 May 2026
- Call Three: 2 June 2025 – 2 August 2026 (only for EU students and non-EU students residing in Italy)
