Studying on the Master's Degree Programme in Viticulture, Enology and Wine Marketing (VEM) means getting to know wine in the places where it takes shape. The programme takes place between Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, territories that have contributed to the history and identity of European viticulture and that bring together very diverse terroirs. The two regions also represent a hub of innovation for wine-making technologies and equipment and are home to a rapidly developing wine tourism sector.

VEM is an inter-university programme of the University of Padua, Verona and Udine. The three institutions share a long experience in research in viticulture and enology, researchers involved in international projects, and advanced laboratories. Collaboration with wine companies, consortia and professional organisations enables students to engage with real problems and with some of the most highly qualified realities of Italian and European production.

Moreover, studying in welcoming cities and renowned wine-growing areas makes it possible to experience at first hand landscapes, gastronomic culture, trade fairs, tastings and professional events, as well as renowned destinations such as Lake Garda, the Dolomites, the Prosecco and Collio hills, the Adriatic Sea, the Laguna di Grado Venezia, Padua, Udine and Verona, Aquileia, and Palmanova, with numerous UNESCO-recognised sites.

The programme prepares graduates capable of understanding the wine supply chain as an integrated system, from vine physiology and vineyard management through to winemaking technologies, sustainability and international market strategies. Graduates can take on decision-making, management and consultancy roles as agronomists, consultants, research and development specialists, quality managers and wine business professionals. Career opportunities include wineries, wine trading companies, consortia, laboratories, public bodies and international organisations. The qualification also allows graduates to continue with a PhD or pursue a career in research. The programme boasts excellent employment prospects: 86% of graduates find employment within one year of obtaining the qualification.

Pursuant to DPR 05/06/01 no. 328, and the equivalences referred to in DM 26/07/07 no. 386, the LM in VEM constitutes the requirement for admission to the State Examination; passing the examination allows registration with the Professional Order of agronomists and foresters, in “Section A - agronomist and forester”, and the practice of the related profession.

Students can apply for the Double Degree with Hochschule Geisenheim University.
By completing the second year in Geisenheim, Germany, it is possible to obtain both the master’s degree in Viticulture, Enology and Wine Marketing and the Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology Vitis Vinum.
The programme also takes part in the Erasmus Student Exchange programme and promotes other international mobility opportunities and theses abroad.
