I was born in Padova (14-05-1967). I got the M.Sc. in Physics at the University of Padova (marks 110/110) in 1991 and the Ph.D. in Physics (with honors) at the University of Florence in 1995.

From 18-01-2021 I am a Full Professor in Theoretical Physics of Matter at the Department of Physics and Astronomy "Galileo Galilei" of the University of Padova.

2022-2024 Chair of the panel "Physics" of the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO, Belgium).

2018-2020 Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal "New Journal of Physics".

From 2019 Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal "Symmetry".

From 2021 Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal "SciPost Physics".

From 2022 Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal "Condensed Matter".

From 2023 Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal "Scientific Reports".

2013-2020 Elected member of the Scientific Committee of Area 2 (Physical Sciences) of the University of Padova.

2013-2021 Elected coordinator (president) of the B.Sc. in Optics and Optometrics of the University of Padova.

2016-2021 Elected member of the governing board of the School of Science, University of Padova.

2019-2023 Member of the governing board of the PhD School of Physics, University of Padova.


My fields of research are condensed matter theory and statistical physics. In particular I study nonlinear phenomena (chaos, solitons, and vortices) and macroscopic quantum effects (Bose-Einstein condensation, superfluidity, and superconductivity) in ultracold atomic gases and other many-body systems by using analytical (quantum statistical field theory, path integral) and numerical methods (finite-difference, Crank-Nicholson, Monte Carlo). I have written more than 200 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. Up to now these papers got more than 5000 citations according to Web of Knowledge and also Scopus.

Research Area

Theoretical Physics of Condensed Matter.

a) Superfluidity, Bose-Einstein condensation, quantum entanglement with ultracold atoms in optical potentials.

b) Solitons, quantized vortices and shock waves in bosonic and fermionic superfluids.

c) Finite-temperature quantum field theory for interacting many-body systems.

3. Ultracold atoms in optical lattices: Hubbard and Bose-Hubbard models.

5. Thermal quantum field theory and Ginzburg-Landau functional for superconductors.

6. Feynman path integral for strongly correlated systems at finite temperature.

7. Macroscopic quantum tunneling and Josephson junctions.

8. Bose-Einstein condensates as gravitational wave detectors
