Born in Milan on 3/2/1953; since 1979 at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, from 1986 and until 2020 at the Bioarchaeology Service Museum of Civilizations (Rome) where it carries out activities of recovery, protection, cataloging, cataloging and scientific study of collections human osteological; conception, scientific coordination and collaboration in the preparation of exhibitions and museum exhibitions; activation of specific technical-scientific research and analysis sectors in the bio-anthropological, histological and IT fields with particular regard to image analysis; scientific consultancy activities both within the Institute and upon external request. He has carried out field missions in Iran, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea.

He carries out research in the areas of biology of the skeleton, methods of image analysis in conventional and digital radiography, analysis of fossil finds by means of micro CT with both conventional X and synchrotron sources, application of statistical and mathematical methods in archaeology and anthropology.

Author of over 130 articles in Italian and international journals, over 120 published abstracts of communications at national and foreign conferences, editor of the Digital Achives or Human Paleobiology series on CDROM, Academic Editor of PLOS One. In 2013 he won the Fabio Frasseto International Prize for Anthropology of the Accademia dei Lincei.
