Professor Andrea Tapparo was born in 1962 (Vicenza, Italy) and obtained the "Laurea" in Chemistry at the University of Padova (Italy) in 1987. His first permanent position in University was at University of Padova, Faculty of Sciences, in 1990 as researcher in analytical chemistry. In 1998 he became Associated Professor of analytical chemistry at the University of Sassari (Italy), Faculty of Sciences. In 2001 he moved to University of Padova, Department of Chemical Sciences, as Associate Professor of Analytical Chemistry.

The research activities of professor Andrea Tapparo have been developed in the field of analytical chemistry, through the optimization of new analytical methodologies for the studies of metal ion interactions in aqueous systems of biological and environmental relevance. He is mainly interesting in the analytical aspects of aluminium(III) speciation in aqueous solution with the aim to obtain both qualitative and quantitative useful information to be utilized in experimental toxicology.
More recently he has also developed studies in the field of the environmental analytical chemistry, by the optimization of new analytical methodologies for the determination of environmental micro-pollutants and their metabolites. At the present time, speciation studies are focused on the characterization of environmental matrices (i.e. particulate matter and wastewater). In this connection, his recent studies on the exposure of honey bees to neonicotinoid insecticides have significantly contributed to clarify the role of seed coating insecticides used in agriculture in the colony loss phenomena worldwide observed.

He is co-author of about 90 scientific publications and about 100 communications to Italian and international conferences.

Professor Andrea Tapparo is the Director of the Specialization School in Chemical Risk Assessment and Management of the University of Padova.
