Claudia Sissi, obtained her degree in Medicinal Chemistry and Technology in 1991 and her PhD degree in 1994 from Padova University working on the interaction between nucleic acids and anticancer drugs. In that period she worked with Prof. D. M. Crothers at the Chemistry Department of Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA and with Prof. F. Zunino at Istituto Tumori, Milan. Her research activity was further founded by post-doctoral several fellowships. In 2004 she is research associate at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Padova, Italy and in 2009 she become associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Padova. Since 2015 she is Full Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences. Her main research focus concerns the quantitative analysis of the interactions between biological macromolecules (proteins, polysaccharide, nucleic acids) with small ligands presenting potential pharmacological activity. Currently, she is actively involved in defining the molecular basis of selective recognition of nucleic acid by small molecules with particular attention toward different DNA folding. At the same time she is interested in the molecular basis of Topoisomerases mechanisms of action to identify novel approaches useful to draw novel antibacterial/anticancer drugs. Her main experience concerns spectroscopic and molecular-biology techniques. She holds several collaborations with Italian (Istituto Tumori di Milano, University of Firenze, Trieste, Catanzaro) and international groups (Universities of Lubiana, and John Innes Center, UK; University of Vermont, Louisville and Atlanta USA). She authored more than 100 publications in international journals and presented over 100 communications to congresses, many of which as invited lecturer. She is in the Editorial Advisory Board of Current Medicinal Chemistry and she is a member of ACS. AACR and SCI.
