Laura Secco (MSc in Forest Sciences, PhD in Land Use and Economics) is an Associate Professor at the Department TESAF of the University of Padova, in Italy. From 1997 to 2005 she worked as consultant in the field of environmental and forest certification, forest planning and local development. In the same period, she was appointed as National Contact Person of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and in 2001 she co-founded and became the National Secretary of the FSC-Italy Group. In 2005, she entered the academic carrier as researcher. In her 17-years long carrier, she participated in several international (e.g. Horizon 2020: ALTERFOR; FP7: NEWFOREX, INTEGRAL, SCORE; AGORA; Cost Actions: ORCHESTRA, CAPABAL, EuMIXFOR; Erasmus+KA: ECOSTAR, Green4C - alliance for the development of entrepreneurial practices in the field of psycho-physical well-being based on Nature) as well as national (e.g. VAIA-FRONT) and local (LAG 4.0) projects; having also their scientific responsibility (e.g. Horizon2020: SIMRA Social Innovation in Marginalized Rural Areas, www.simra-h2020.eu). In 2012 he became vice-coordinator of Unit 9.05.03 (Cross-sectoral policy impacts on forests and environment), IUFRO Division 9 Forest Policy and Economics. She is member of the two Italian scientific societies of agricultural economists (SIDEA, AIEAA). In 2011 she co-founded the spin-off of the University of Padova “Etifor srl” (www.etifor.com), providing guidance and scientific support. From October 2020 she is Vice-coordinator of the LERH (Land, Environment, Resources and Health) Doctoral School at her Department.
She has carried out numerous teaching, study and research activities abroad (e.g. Eastern Europe, Asia). He teaches the MSc Erasmus Mundus courses Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR), Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management (MEDfOR) and Sustainable Forestry and Nature Management (SUFONAMA), and the MSc in Forest Science at the University of Padova, all in vehicular language. He teaches e-learning on Moodle and in FutureLearn (MOOC on social innovation in rural areas, online course on Green Care). In 2015-2019 he is responsible for the curriculum "Responsible Production of forest goods and services" as part of the Forest Science Teaching Commission. In 2014-2019 he is a member of the TESAF Identity Commission. Since November 2019 she has been a member of the Research Commission of the TESAF Department, for the preparation of the Three-Year Departmental Research Plan and other policy activities. From 2006 to 2009, she was a member of the Teaching Board of the Doctorate in Management Engineering and Estimation. She participated in the International Doctorate Programme Forestry and Nature for Society (FONASO). She has been main supervisor or co-supervisor of 5 postgraduate thesis, 34 doctoral thesis, over 45 master's thesis and over 30 three-year thesis. She has been collaborating as peer reviewer and Guest Editor with various international journals (e.g. Environmental Economics, Land Use Policy, iForest, Sustainability). She is Editor of two international scientific journals (Conservation Letters, Forest Policy and Economics).
She has published more than 180 papers, including papers in internationally relevant journals (ISI with IF), books, project Deliverables and operational handbooks (h-index on Scopus: 13). From June 2021 she got qualified as a Forest Bathing Guide with the international organisation Forest Therapy Hub
