Claudio Meneguzzer (Bolzano, 1958) graduated “cum laude” in Civil Engineering (Transportation curriculum) at the University of Padova in 1982.

From 1982 to 1985 he has carried out research activities in the area of road network analysis and planning at the Istituto di Costruzioni, Ponti e Strade of the University of Padova, collaborating, in particular, to research projects sponsored by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) within the framework of the “Special Project for Transportation”, as well as to transportation and traffic studies sponsored by local government agencies.

From 1985 to 1990 he has worked as a Research Assistant in the Transportation Planning group of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (U.S.A.) and at the Urban Transportation Center of the University of Illinois at Chicago (U.S.A.), participating in research projects sponsored by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration and the Illinois Department of Transportation. During this period, he has carried out an intense research activity on various topics within the area of mathematical modelling of transport networks.

He received an MSc degree in Civil Engineering (in 1986) an a PhD degree in Civil Engineering (in 1990) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

From 1990 to 1992 he has worked as an independent consultant in the field of transport analysis and planning.

Since 1992 he is Associate Professor of Transportation Planning at the University of Padova, where he has taught several courses in the area of transportation and has supervised a large number of theses on a wide range of topics regarding the analysis, planning, design, management and operations of transportation systems. He has been coordinator and participant in several research projects in the field of transportation. He has been a member of the supervising committee of the Doctoral School in Transportation Engineering of the University of Trieste, and is currently a member of the supervising committee of the Doctoral Course in Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering of the University of Padova. From 2013 to 2016 he has been President of the “Commissione Paritetica Docenti-Studenti” of the School of Engineering, of which he has been a member until 2019. He is also member of several committees that operate within the Civil Engineering course and the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering of the University of Padova. He has served and serves as a referee for international journals and conferences.

His scientific activity is in the field of transportation system analysis, planning, management and operations, with specific emphasis on road network analysis and control.

Research Area

The scientific activity of Claudio Meneguzzer relates to the field of transportation system analysis, planning, management and operations, with specific emphasis on road network analysis and control.

In particular, he has carried out or is currently carrying out research on the following topics:

- Analysis of traffic flow in road networks;
- Traffic assignment models, in particular stochastic user equilibrium models and equilibrium models with asymmetric interactions;
- Dynamic traffic assignment models;
- Combined traffic assignment and signal control models;
- Dynamic process models and equilibrium stability in transport networks;
- Accident prediction models;
- Analysis of driver behaviour at road intersections;
- Application of fuzzy system theory to transportation system modelling;
- Transferability of probabilistic models and fuzzy models of gap acceptance behaviour;
- Interactions between vehicular and pedestrian flows on roundabout approaches;
- Experimental analysis of day-to-day route choice dynamics in road networks;
- Analysis of pollutant emissions produced by vehicular traffic in road networks.
