Michele De Carli graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Padua and achieved the Ph.D in Energy Management at the University of Padua.
Between 2001 and 2005 he worked in the University of Padua as Research Fellow. Since 2006 he is member of the permanent teaching staff of the University of Padua and from 2015 he is associate professor. He currently teaches “HVAC systems”, “Energy & Buildings” and “Thermal control of space vehicles”.
His research activity is related to energy in buildings (historical, existing and modern), IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality), HVAC, heat pumps and other efficient systems for providing energy in buildings, including Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
In particular, his research is based on both monitoring and mathematical modelling. The activity in the modelling concerns particularly the radiant systems and also other topics, such as natural ventilation, ground source heat pumps, complex building envelope systems, like ventilated facades and roofs, double skin facades, glazing systems coupled with building automation, green roofs.
His activity is related to HVAC, dealing with radiant heating and cooling systems, full-air systems and solution integrating different energy sources, including different types of renewable energies. As for heat pumps he works with high and low temperature heat pumps, both air to water and water to water heat pumps, but also bivalent/hybrid heat pumps working with different sources.
He has been supervisor of different Ph.D theses and supervisor and co-supervisor in several graduation theses in the above mentioned and other research fields, such as air distribution in large rooms, modelling of district heating and cooling, field measurements and modelling of high temperature radiant heating, monitoring of existing and renovated buildings, modelling of solar heating and cooling systems, perceived comfort analysis in existing buildings, daylighting and IAQ.
He is author of more than 250 publications in National and International Journals and Conferences.
Since 2001 he is member of TC228WG5 of CEN (Standard European Commission), as well as ISO TC205WG8.
Since 2009 he has coordinated the GL608 SG1 of CTI, developing the Italian standard on designing ground source heat pumps.
He participated in the Annex 49 of IEA "Low Exergy Systems for High-Performance Buildings and Communities" of IEA.
He is member of AiCARR (Italian association in the field of HVAC systems).
He has been scientific coordinator of the H2020 project Cheap-GSHPs and GEO4CIVHIC, as well as the regional funding for clusters GHOTEM.
