Born in 1969.

Laurea Degree in Astronomy at the Padua University in 1995. Ph.D. in Astronomy at the Padua University in 1999. Post-doc at the Padua University between 1999 and 2002. Research position at the Padua University between 2002 and 2015. Associate professor at the Padua University from 2015.

He is lecturer in Astrophysics for the Bachelor Degree in Astronomy and Galaxy Astrophysics for the Master Degree in Astronomy at the Padua University. He has been supervisor of many B.Sc. and M.Sc. theses in Physics and Astronomy and Ph.D theses in Astronomy.

He is interested in processes of galaxy formation and evolution by studying the photometrical, kinematical and dynamical properties of galaxies at low and high redshift. Main research topics are the study of galaxy merging and interactions, dark matter distribution in galaxy disks, and supermassive black holes. He did several observing runs with the best ground-based (ESO, NOAO, TNG) and space-based (HST) telescopes.

Author of more than 100 papers on refereed journals and a large number of contributions in conference proceedings. Editor of the proceedings of the conference "Galaxy Disks and Disk Galaxies" (Rome 2000), "Le nuove frontiere dell'astronomia italiana da terra e dallo spazio" (Padua 2002), "Formation and Evolution of Disk Galaxies" (Rome 2007), and "Pattern Speeds along the Hubble Sequence" (Padua 2008), "The Inspiration of Astronomical Phenomena VI" (Venice 2010). Collaborator of the Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani. Referee for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, The Astrophysical Journal and The Astrophysical Journal Letters. He has been member of the Time Allocation Committee of the European Southern Observatory. Member of the International Astronomical Union. He got the International Prize for Astronomy "L. Tartufari" from the Lincei National Academy in 2014. The minor planet 343230 (2009WZ105) has been named after him.
