Overall, Prof. Tomaso Bottio as the first operator has intervened in more than 1600 cardiac surgery interventions in the last decade. All the operations were performed at the Cardiosurgery of Padua, Unit in which an average of 750 adult cardiac surgeries and 250 congenital pediatric cardiac surgeries are performed each year.
From February 2012 to date he has personally implanted more than 100 intra-body LVADs, numerous paracorporei VADs with minimally invasive technique, has performed numerous cardiac transplants, and of these more than 35 in patients with intracorporeal VAD. He performed numerous aortic valve replacement and mitral valve repair with a minimally invasive technique.
He performed numerous operations of totally arterial myocardial revascularization with off-pump technique, without the aid of extracorporeal circulation. He has performed numerous aortic root replacement operations according to Bentall, of repair of the aortic valve according to Tirone David, of the ascending aorta and of the aortic arch for emergency dissection. He performed numerous intermetal catheter aortic valve (TAVI) interventions.
With regard to this topic (MCS and LVAD), Prof. Tomaso Bottio has published numerous articles, developing new minimally invasive techniques for VAD implantation, and is the first in the world to use the bi-thoracotomy technique for implantation. of the Jarvik 2000 system, and the first to have developed the implant technique in the subclavian artery of the Heartware system (HVAD). He also developed an alternative technique for the implantation of the Total Artificial Heart type Cardiowest, when the size of the thorax would not allow it.
