Prof. Sara Bogialli obtained a degree with Laude in Chemistry at the University "La Sapienza" of Rome in 2002 and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 2006 with a thesis titled: "Development of new methods based on LC/MS for analyzing contaminants in foodstuff". From 2006 to 2011 she had several research grants and fellowships at the University “La Sapienza” and the Italian National Institute of Health, all focused on the development of analytical methods based on MS detection for analyzing residues of organic contaminants in foodstuff and environment. Since 1 March 2011, Prof. Bogialli has a position at the University of Padova, Department of Chemical Sciences.
She has achieved strong expertise in extraction procedures of contaminants from biological and environmental samples, followed by detection with hyphenated techniques, coupled to various mass analyzers, such as ion trap, quadrupole, Q-ToF, Orbitrap. Her first research activities were devoted to the optimization of novel strategies for determining residues of veterinary drugs in foodstuff. Particular emphasis was devoted to the validation protocol to comply with the European legislation and propose robust methods easy to be implemented by public and private laboratories.
Successively, she focused her attention on the monitoring, risk evaluation and management of emerging contaminants in the environment, specifically in water. All the recent scientific issues were based on high-resolution mass spectrometry for the characterization and analysis of organic compounds with target and non-target protocols, performed in the field of environmental, food, synthetic, biological chemistry, and cultural heritage.
As a Full Professor, she has tenure for five courses in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry, and lessons in the “school of specialization in evaluation and management of the chemical risk”. She is co-author of two patents focused on phytotherapeutic formulations.
Prof. Sara Bogialli was a member of the National Commission for evaluating the qualification professors in analytical chemistry and environmental chemistry, and attends several Regional and National Advisory Groups and Scientific Panels, and has other management duties:
- Member of the Italian Advisory Group “Reference Analytical Methods for Drinking Water”;
- Member of the Italian Advisory Group “Risk management related to cyanobacteria presence in drinking water”;
- Member of the Italian Health Council, Section Mineral and thermal waters;
- Team leader and team leader trainer for the implementation of the Water Safety Plan;
- Member of the Permanent Technical –scientific Panel supporting the Environment and Health Commission, drinking water, Veneto Region (D.G.R. 380 of 26 march 2018);
- President of the Italian Chemical Society, Veneto Region;
- President of two University courses in” Environmental Sciences”;
- Member of the Departmental Commission of Didactic and “Third Mission”.
Prof. Sara Bogialli is co-author of 92 publications (8 book chapters, 7 technical reports), Editor of the Journal Applied Sciences-Basel, and attended several national and international symposia, also on invitation. She has collected over 2600 citations reaching an H-index value of 31 (Scopus, March 2022).
