Research Area

- Turbomachinery flows: optimal design methods, performance analysis in design and off-design conditions by means of CFD techniques, design optimization using multi-objective numerical algorithms (evolutionary, gradient-based and adjoint). Phenomenology and numerical modeling of the rotor-stator interaction, aeroelasticity and flutter in compressor blades using spectral techniques, harmonic balance and Fourier decomposition. Full-annulus uRANS methods for the study of incipient stall in axial compressors.

- Propulsion machines, propellers, transonic fans and compressors. Aero gas turbine engines: Study, numerical modeling and optimization of the installation effects of high bypass ratio and boundary layer engines. Turbo-prop and turboshaft engines. Development and application of reduced order models for aircraft propulsion modelling.

- Development and applications of DNS/LES CFD numerical codes with Immersed Boundaries techniques for in the study of supersonic and hypersonic flows in ramjets and scramjets.

- Wind turbines (VAWTs-HAWTs-Shrouded): design techniques, analysis and performance optimization. Development and application of BEM, CFD and hybrid methods (e.g. lifting line methods) for modeling offshore HAWT in floating conditions.

- Waterjets and propellers for high-speed marine vehicles: Development and application of design methods, analysis and performance optimization.
