Roberto Benato, was born in Venezia, Italy, in 1970. He received the Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Padova in 1995 and Ph.D. in Power Systems Analysis in 1999 with a dissertation entitled "Advanced matrix algorithms for the steady-state and dynamic power system analysis". In 2002 he was appointed as Assistant Professor, in 2010 as Associate Professor and in 2021 as Full Professor in the Power Systems Group at the Department of Industrial Engineering at Padova University. His main fields of research are the multiconductor analysis and more generally the electric energy transmission. Benato is author and co-author of about 180 scientific papers, 6 Cigré (International Council on Large Electric Systems) Technical Brochures, an IEEE Standard (IEEE Std C37.122.4™-2016 Guide for Application and User Guide for Gas-Insulated Transmission Lines, Rated 72.5 kV and Above) and 4 books: "EHV AC undergrounding electrical power" (pub. SPRINGER and translated in Chinese Simplified by China Machine Press), "Impianti elettrici" (pub. Wolters Kluwer) and "Esercizi di sistemi elettrici per l'energia" (pub. Libreria Progetto).
Moreover, in 2005, he has been nominated Member of IEEE PES Substations Committee; in particular, K0 GIS Subcommittee, K2 TF1 Tutorial on GIS/GIL/SF6 and K3 TF1 GIL Application Guide.
In 2014, he has been nominated Member of IEC TC 120 "Electrical Energy Storage (EES) Systems" in the WG 4 "Environmental issues of EES systems". In 2015 he has been nominated Member of IEC TC 115 "High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission for DC voltages above 100 kV" and of IEC TC 122 "UHV AC transmission systems". Since 1996 Roberto Benato has also been an AEIT member.
In 2017 R. Benato has been elevated to the grade of IEEE SENIOR MEMBER and in 2018 to the grade of Cigré DISTINGUISHED MEMBER.
