Andrea Zanella is Full Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Padua, from which he received his Ph.D. in 2002 and his B.S. in Computer Engineering in 1998 (summa cum laude). In 2001, he spent nine months as a visiting scholar at the Department of Computer Science, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was actively engaged in research activities on radio networks and radio access to the Internet, under the supervision of Prof. Mario Gerla, making a fundamental contribution to the modeling of the Westwood TCP protocol.

Scientific interests include telecommunications networks, the Internet of Things, and aspects of mobile internetworking. Specifically, research topics include protocol definition, modeling, and performance analysis for ad hoc networks, personal extension networks, sensor networks, local radio networks, and vehicular networks. In addition, he works on "cognitive" networks (i.e., capable of acquiring self-management capabilities by means of machine learning and reinforcement learning algorithms) and protocols for the transmission of multimedia streams.

He is one of the inventors of four international patents and the author of more than 200 papers that have appeared in prestigious peer-reviewed international journals and conferences. Four of these papers have also received the best (student) paper award.

In addition to academic research, Andrea Zanella has actively contributed to several scientific research projects both national and international, such as the CHIST-ERA Andromeda, FP7 SAPHYRE, MEDIEVAL, ARAGORN, and NEWCOM projects. He also participates (including in coordination roles) in numerous scientific collaboration programs with leading ICT industries (such as Nokia Bell Labs, Infineon, INTEL).

Andrea Zanella is an IEEE Senior member and has editorial experience in several prestigious journals in the field such as IEEE Internet of Things Journal, IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking, MDPI's Sensor and Digital Communications and Networks (DCN), from Elsevier.

On the teaching front, Andrea Zanella has taught several three-year and master's courses in the School of Information Engineering from 2003 to the present. In particular, he has been the holder of teachings in Computer Networks, Telecommunication Networks, Data Communication and Multimedia Transmission Protocols, Internet and Multimedia Laboratory, Telecommunication Laboratory, Telecommunication Networks, Computer Networks, ICT for Industrial Applications. He has also taught courses at the PhD program in Brain Mind and Computer Science.

Finally, Andrea Zanella is among the initiators and coordinators of the SIGNET research group focused on research issues in the field of networks and a member of the board of directors of the Human Inspired Technologies (HIT) interdepartmental center.
