Research Area

The research activity is focused on plant-pathogen molecular interactions. In particular, the research concerns the study of glycosidase inhibitors in their ability to confer resistance to plants against fungal pathogens. Besides, the research activity is also focused on studying the effect of biotic and abiotic stresses on plant health and on the management strategies to limit their impact. Specifically, our research group is characterizing different yeast extracts in their capacity to increase tolerance to the main grapevine diseases and water stress. Sustainable management of emerging pomegranate pathogens is another area of research. The project deals with the study of the impact of abiotic stress on the aggressiveness of these pathogens. Finally, the research activity is also focused on the study of the ability of synthetic peptides deriving from the natural peptaibol trichogin to protect plants (tomato, bean, grapevine, rice) from fungal and bacterial pathogens and oomycetes.
