During the Ph.D course he was Fulbright and Gini Foundation (Padua) Grant holder visiting the Optical Sciences Center of the University of Arizona (Tucson, USA). From 1995 to 1996 he was Visiting Research Lecturer at the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, USA) and Visiting Scholar at Brown University, Providence (Rhode Island, USA). From 1997 to 1999 he was a post-doctoral researcher at IMEDEA (University of the Balearic Islands) in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), under the TMR program QSTRUCT funded by the European Commission. From 1999 he joined the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padua (Italy) (2005 Aggregate professor; 2011 Associate Professor; 2021 Full Professor). He is author or co-author of about 130 among articles and memories published in international scientific reviews, books and proceedings of international conferences, with about 1300 citations and h-index 21. He coordinated the European project GOSPEL (ICT-FP7-219299), an International bilateral project (Italy-Croatia), the Padua Unit in 3 National research projects and 4 research projects funded by the University of Padua. He is currently coordinating the Padua Unit of the PRIN Project FIRST. He collaborated in national and international research projects and has also been consultant for SAIFO Srl, Marconi Telecommunications and TelecomItalia Labs.
He reviews for international journals like IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Optics Letters, Optics Express, Optics Communications. He was TPC member at ECOC 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2023.
