Crop defence against viruses is not supported by specific agrochemicals. RNA interference can find practical application in virus defence as it exploits the plant's defence mechanisms leading to the silencing of genes of the pathogen.

The thesis proposal concerns a study of molecules and biomaterials able to induce RNA interference to counteract viral infection in plants of agricultural interest.

Experimental trials and data collection are already ongoing.
