Sergio Ortolani is full professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Padova University.

He got the degree in Astronomy at Padova University in 1977.
-Staff Astronomer at the Astronomical Observatory of Padova, at Asiago site, in 1979.
-He moved to Padova, as associated professor at the Department of Astronomy in 1991.
-Full professor in 1994.
In this period he worked also in USA, Tucson, at Kitt Peak National Observatory (1980-81) and at ESO, Garching (Germany) and La Silla (Chile). In 1990 he spent several months in Chile as ESO La Silla Senior Visitor.
He was member of several NASA-ESA committees for HST and at the site selection committees for VLT and E-ELT. Recently he was joined the commissions for the CTA site selection.
He is also italian representative at the SUCOSIP (Site property Subcommitte of the Canary Island Observatory).

Current teaching activity:

-Astronomy II part A, third year of the undergraduate course
-General Astrophysics part A, first year of the graduate course
-Specialistic classes at the PHD courses

-Globular clusters in the Galaxy and in the Magellanic Clouds
-Astronomical sites properties from optical and infrared data, including meteorological preoperties and light pollution
-Properties of stars hosting exoplanets
