From 2007 to 2011 he was awarded a research grant at the University of Padua, in collaboration with the Veneto Interuniversity Coordination for Nanotechnologies: research activities have been dealing with the development of sensors and measuring instruments.
Since 2012 he has been enrolled as researcher and since 2020 as associate professor and since 2024 as full professor at the TESAF Department (Department of Land, Environment, Agriculture and Forestry) of the University of Padua.
Since 2017 Adjunct professor at the University of Georgia (USA), with a course on Precision Farming; since 2017 partner of the university spin-off NEOS srl, with activity on remote and proximal sensing in agriculture.
Francesco Marinello is in charge of the courses of "Agricultural Mechanics" (degree course in Agricultural Sciences and Technologies), "Applied Statistics" (degree course in Land Reorganization and Landscape Protection), "Precision Farming" (degree course in Sustainable Agriculture), “Sustainable resource-efficient food production and processing” (Food and Health degree course).
Scientific activity is done into the following themes or lines of research:
- study, analysis, modelling and improvement of agricultural tools and machinery
- study and characterization of instruments and sensors for analysis in the agricultural, livestock and environmental fields
- integration of sensors on agricultural machines and implements
- implementation of proximal and remote sensing techniques for the collection of agricultural data
- data management in the agricultural sector (blockchain, IoT, big data, etc.)
The activity was carried out not only within the framework of national and international projects, but also in collaboration with national and international companies, including, Maschio e Gaspardo, Topcon, Trimble, Foton Lovol.
