From September 2014 to February 2015 he spent a period of study abroad at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, as part of the Erasmus Exchange Program.

After graduation, he was a Visiting Research Scholar at the New York University (NYU), USA, to do research on the study, design and validation of protocols for initial access and beam management in future 5G millimeter-wave systems, in collaboration with Prof. Sundeep Rangan. In 2016 he enrolled the Ph.D. Program in Information Engineering at the University of Padova, that he received in February 2020. During his PhD, he was also a Research Intern at the Toyota Infotechnology Center, USA, doing research on the design and validation of vehicular communication protocols for future connected and intelligent transportation systems, in collaboration with Dr. Onur Altintas.

In 2020, he was the recipient of a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova. From 2022 he is an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in the same University. In 2021 he received the National Scientific Habilitation (ASN) to the role of Associate Professor in Telecommunications (ING-INF/03).

Marco Giordani has been collaborating with several national and international academic and industrial partners, including InterDigital Communications, NYU, NIST, US Army Research Office, Toyota Infotechnology Center, Orange, Huawei, Inmarsat. His main research activities focus on protocol and architecture design for wireless networks, in particular 5G and 6G cellular and vehicular networks. His research covers multidisciplinary areas, in the fields of telecommunication engineering, computer science, signal and image processing. To date, he has co-authored 1 international patent, 5 book chapters, and 60+ conference and journal papers, two of which have received Best Paper Awards.

Marco Giordani is the recipient of several scientific awards, including the “2018 IEEE Daniel E.
