Diego Di Curzio is a Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Hydrogeology at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Padua. Since 2021, he holds the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in Engineering Geology, Physical Geography, and Geomorphology. After obtaining his BSc degree in Geological Sciences in 2009 and his MSc degree in Geological Sciences and Technologies in 2013 from the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, he completed a PhD in Earth Systems and Built Environments in 2018, with a dissertation on the effects of hydrodynamics and hydrogeochemical conditions on the occurrence of redox processes in groundwater. From 2018 to 2022, he held postdoctoral positions in hydrogeology and applied geology, focusing on reactive transport modeling of contaminants and the use of geostatistical techniques in hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, and hydro-mechanical characterization of the subsurface. From 2022 to 2024, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at Delft University of Technology (Delft, Netherlands), serving as Principal Investigator of the research project “MICROLIFEPAQS – Modelling mICRObial LIFE in Polluted AQuiferS” (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101064993). During the same period, he was also a Visiting Researcher at the Technical University of Denmark (Kongens Lyngby, Denmark). Between November 2024 and February 2025, he was a Lecturer in Soil Hydrology at Wageningen University & Research (Wageningen, Netherlands). He has received recognition for his research activity, including the "G.M. Zuppi" Award for the Best PhD Thesis in Hydrogeology from the Italian Chapter of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH-Italy) and the Seal of Excellence from the European Commission for a project proposal submitted under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. He is currently coordinator of the course Applied Hydrogeology in the MSc Degree Program in Environmental Geology and Earth Dynamics (LM-74) at the University of Padua. From 2018 to 2025, he served as lecturer in courses for Master’s and PhD students in hydrogeology, geostatistics, applied geology, and numerical modeling at the University “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, Delft University of Technology, and Wageningen University & Research. He has also supervised several BSc and MSc theses in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology. From an editorial perspective, he has served as Chief Guest Editor for the journal Science of the Total Environment (Elsevier) and Guest Editor for the journal Water (MDPI), and he is currently on the Editorial Board of Georisk (Taylor & Francis), in addition to serving as a reviewer for numerous high-impact scientific journals. From 2020 to 2023, he was Chair of the Italian Chapter of the Early Career Hydrogeology Network (ECHN-Italy) and is currently a Member of the IAH-Italy Committee. He is also Corresponding Member for Italy of Technical Committee TC304 of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) and a member of Commission C28 of the International Association for Engineering Geology (IAEG).
