Our health research operates both in the direction of prevention and in that of treatment, ranging between various areas of study, such as research on cancer, degenerative diseases and rare diseases.

In a context in which antibiotic resistance represents one of the main global health challenges, understanding the functioning of the microbiota and enhancing the importance of "good" bacteria becomes increasingly crucial. This is why it is important to focus scientific research on the microbiota, highlighting the role that gut bacteria have for animal and human growth.

Another innovative project aims to develop a new ministerial field of study code of nanomedicines that can infiltrate directly into glioblastoma (GBM), a fearsome tumor with low life expectancy. This treatment can improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy and be able to eradicate cancerous cells.

I choose the planet

The planet is crying out for a green revolution that cannot wait: the data collected in recent decades indicate how much human activity has already negatively affected the environment and how much action must be taken now to preserve the ecosystem and, with it, our well-being and that of those who will come. 

One of the themes of our research on the environment is precisely how climate change and human activities, such as fishing, affect marine ecosystems. Understanding and predicting how these changes occur is key to sustainably managing marine ecosystems and protecting the well-being of the communities that depend on them.

Another field of study is aimed at the development of new molecules and organic materials for the production of clean energy and water purification. The use of innovative materials to improve photocatalytic processes, a field that harnesses light to promote chemical reactions in a sustainable way, has an impact in crucial areas such as the production of solar fuels and consumer chemicals.

Finding more efficient solutions to these important challenges can contribute to a more sustainable future.

I choose future generations

Today we cultivate a better society for those who will come after us, through concrete actions guided by universal values such as human rights, peace and international solidarity. We do this by encouraging interdisciplinary research activities and publications in the field of personal and peoples' rights. But that's not all: we offer information, education and training activities on good practices in the field of gender equality and inclusion, dedicated not only to our community but to all citizens.

One of the strands of research on human rights focuses on a highly topical issue: disinformation and hate speech online, especially on social media. In a hyper-connected world, false information and hate messages can influence democracy, fuel conflicts and put fundamental rights at risk. The study of comparative law allows us to understand how different countries face these challenges, to find the rules of a respectful debate and to protect the new generations from the negative impact of social media without limiting freedom of expression.
