Maria Elena Valcher received the Master Degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering in July 1991 from the University of Padova (Italy) and the Ph.D. Degree in Systems Engineering in October 1995 from the same university. From November 1994 till October 1998 she was Assistant Professor in the Automatic Control area at the Department of Electronics and Computer Science of the University of Padova. From November 1998 to October 2001 she was Associate Professor of System Theory at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Lecce (Italy).
From November 2001 to December 2004 she was Associate Professor of System Theory at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Padova.
She is currently Full Professor of Control Theory at the University of Padova.

Research
She is author/co-author of about 80 papers appeared on international journals, about 95 conference papers and some book chapters. Her research interests include multidimensional systems theory, polynomial matrix theory,delay-differential systems, switched systems and positive systems, multi-agent systems and Boolena networks.

Lectures
She was a Plenary Speaker at the workshop Positive Systems Theory and Applications (POSTA) 2009, Valencia (Spagna), September 2-4, 2009, SemiPlenary Speaker at the 49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC 2010), Atlanta (Georgia), December 15-17, 2010, Keynote Speaker at the 2015 Chinese Control Conference, Plenary Speaker at POSTA 2016, Rome (Italy). She was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Control Systems society for three years (2011-2013).

Conference Organization
She was in the Program/Organizing Committee of several conferences. In particular:

Editorial Activities
She was in the Editorial Board of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control (Jan. 1999- Dec. 2002), of Systems & Control Letters (2004-2010), of Automatica (June 2006-Dec. 2013) (for this role she got the Certificate of Outstanding Service when she stepped down), SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization (Jan. 2012-Dec. 2014), and she is currently in the Editorial Boards of Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing (2004-), of the European Journal of Control (Jan. 2013-) and of IEEE Access (Jan. 2014-).
She was Outstanding Reviewer of the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control in 1999 and 2002, and Outstanding Reviewer of Automatica for the period July 2001-July 2002.
Since January 2017 she is the Editor in Chief of the IEEE Control Systems Letters.

Area di ricerca

Her research interests include multidimensional systems theory, polynomial matrix theory, behavior theory, convolutional coding, fault detection and observer design, delay-differential systems, switched systems, positive systems, positive switched systems, consensus and multi-agent systems, and Boolean control networks.


Tesi proposte

Per lauree triennali le tesine riguardano in generale problematiche di modellistica e controllo di semplici sistemi meccanici, idraulici, biologici, etc. da risolvere con le tecniche sviluppate nel corso di Controlli Automatici ed eventualmente di Sistemi e Modelli, in particolare viene richiesta una minima conoscenza di Matlab, Simulink e SISOtool.
Per le tesi di Laurea Magistrale gli argomenti sono selezionati sulla base delle attivita' di ricerca correnti del docente e degli interessi dello studente. Le tesi magistrale proposte sono di natura teorico-metodologica.
