PERCORSO SCIENTIFICO
Laureato in Fisica presso Università di Padova nel 2004 con la tesi "Commissioning of the Calibration System of the MAGIC Telescope", svolto presso l'Institut de Fisica d'Altes Energies (IFAE, Barcellona, Spagna). Dottorato di Ricerca in Fisica nel 2009 presso Università di Padova con la tesi "Novel Reflective Elements and Indirect Dark Matter Searches with MAGIC and CTA" sulla tecnologia per specchi per i telescopi Cherenkov MAGIC e CTA e sulle ricerche indirette di materia oscura con raggi gamma da annichilazione o decadimento di materia oscura in ambienti astrofisici. Ho lavorato successivamente presso Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, Spagna 2010-2013) e ho avuto contratti professionali con Institut de Fisica d'Altes Energies e Max Planck Institut per la fisica (MPI-Monaco di Baviera, Germania 2014/2015). Attualmente sono Professore Associato al Dipartimento di Fisica e Astronomia e associato all'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare.

PARTECIPAZIONE AD ESPERIMENTI E RUOLI DI GESTIONE
* Membro dI MAGIC (Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov) e CTA (Cherenkov Telescope Array). In MAGIC, attualmente sono membro del Executive Board e del Collaboration Board nel ruolo di Editori Scientifico
* In passato sono stato Responsabile locale della sezione di Padova INFN per MAGIC, responsabile del gruppo di lavoro di fisica fondamentale, di quello sulle ottiche del telescopio, delle operazioni (turni, presa dati, qualità dei dati) e della sicurezza del telescopio.
* In CTA, sono attualmente membro del comitato esecutivo di LST (Large Size Telescope, sottoprogetto di CTA) nel ruolo di coordinatore della calibrazione. In passato, sono stato anche responsabile del gruppo di lavoro sulle ricerche di materia oscura e fisica fondamentale di CTA, del gruppo di lavoro delle ottiche, del gruppo di lavoro di calibrazione atmosferica.
* Sono tra i proponenti di uno strumento MeV-GeV su satellite chiamato e-Astrogam
* Sono tra i proponenti di uno strumento per rivelazione di "shower front" all'emisfero Sud, chiamato LATTES

Area di ricerca

Il settore di riferimento e' Astronomia Gamma alla Alte Energie, parte di interesse delle attività del Commissione Scientifica Nazionale 2 dell'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare. L'Astronomia Gamma alle Alte Energie si articola in esperimenti su satellite e al suolo. Tra i secondi, vi sono i telescopi di tipo Cherenkov che osservano la luce Cherenkov prodotta da particelle ultrarelativistiche prodotte nelle cosiddette cascate atmosferiche di particelle indotte nell'atmosfera terrestre dal bombardamento di raggi cosmici e raggi gamma. In particolare, lavoro dal 2004 per il telescopio MAGIC (https://magic.mpp.mpg.de) e per il progetto CTA (www.cta-observatory.org).

Per questi telescopi mi sono occupato e mi occupo principalmente di:
1/ Ricerche di materia oscura
2/ Ottiche dei telescopi e manifattura di superfici riflettenti
3/ Remote sensing con strumenti accessori e calibrazione atmosferica
4/ Guide di Luce per Sensori al Silicio

2013 Diploma Thesis of Stefano Protti “Calcolo del fattore astrofisico con codice Clumpy per la ricerca di materia oscura”, Universitá di Padova, 2013. The thesis dealt with the calculation of astrophysical factor for all known dwarf satellite galaxies with the use of the public Clumpy code.
2011 Master Thesis of Miguel Eizmendi "IFAE-UAB Raman LIDAR Link Budget and Components" Universitat Politecnica de Barcelona, 2011. The thesis dealt with the simulation of the IFAE-UAB Raman lidar through the Link-Budget prob- lem and simulation of the optical layout of the photon detector system of the lidar through the Zemax simulation program.
2011 Master Thesis of Ramon Nogueira "La matéria fosca" (The dark matter - thesis in Catalan), Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, 2011. The work dealt with simulation of simple dark matter models with the DarkSusy program and discussion of the results.
2011 Master Thesis of Daniel Garrido "The effect of molecular and aerosol atmospheric profiles on the performance of the MAGIC telescopes" Universitat Au- tonoma Barcelona, 2011. The thesis deals with the study of the effect of different aeresol profiles in the data econstruction and analysis of MAGIC-stereo.
2011 Phd Thesis work by S. Lombardi "Development of analysis tools for the MAGIC Telescopes and observation of the Segue 1 Satellite Galaxy with the MAGIC-I Telescope.", University of Padova, 2011. Lombardi is now responsible for the reconstruction software design of the array of Small Size Telescopes for CTA at INAF.
2010 Diploma Thesis work of Simona Paiano "Ricerche di Materia Oscura con il telescopio MAGIC”, Universitá di Padova, 2010. The thesis dealt with the comparison of public codes for RGE regression.
2007 Diploma Thesis work of Fabio Zandanel "Dark Matter Search with the MAGIC Telescope: Analysis of the Unidentified EGRET Source 3EG J1835+5918” University of Padova, June 2007. Zandanel is now postdoc at GRAPPA institute in Amsterdam winner of a prestigious Netherlands grant.
