Sfera armillare

Sixteenth and seventeenth century instruments

The Museum possesses a few beautiful sixteenth century scientific instruments. Let us mention for instance an astrolabe - the jewel of Renaissance mathematical instruments - made in Louvain by Arsenius, and an armillary sphere with a “trepidation” mechanism, a very rare instrument.

As for the seventeenth century instruments, besides some astronomical, mathematical and drawing devices, the collection preserves a rare microscope signed by Eustachio Divini, who made optical instruments for the most important scientists of those years
