Graduated in Forestry in 1992 in the University of Padova, discussing a thesis about the relationships between the Pine Processionary Caterpillar Thaumetopoea pityocampa and the nutrient cycle in stands of Pinus nigra.
Ph. D. in Applied Entomology in 1987 in the University of Bologna, discussing a thesis about the ecology and the population dynamics of the Pine Processionary Caterpillar Thaumetopoea pityocampa in North-eastern Italy.
Serving as forest manager in the Forest Service of Veneto Region (NE Italy) from 1986 to 1990, dealing mostly with the management of forest pests through the application of direct control and silvicultural methods.
